Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra launched a fierce attack on the Modi government in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday during a discussion on Operation Sindoor, accusing Home Minister Amit Shah of evading accountability for the Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people. She criticized Shah for focusing on Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi, and Sonia Gandhi’s “tears” while failing to explain why the military action against Pakistan was halted. “Leadership is about taking responsibility, not just credit,” she said, targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Priyanka questioned the government’s intelligence failures, asking, “Who will take responsibility for the Pahalgam attack? Has anyone resigned?” She highlighted the absence of security and medical facilities at the site, despite over 1,000 daily tourists, quoting a victim’s wife: “The government left us orphaned.” Reading out the names of the deceased, she emphasized their humanity, responding to treasury benches’ “Hindu” shouts with “Bharatiya,” asserting their identity as Indian martyrs.
She challenged the government’s diplomacy, noting a Pakistani general dining with the US President post-Operation Sindoor and Pakistan chairing the UN’s Counter-Terrorism Committee, undermining the operation’s goal to curb terrorism. “Why was the war stopped when Pakistan had nowhere to go?” she asked, alleging the US announced the halt, reflecting Modi’s “irresponsibility.” Priyanka contrasted this with Indira Gandhi’s diplomacy in the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War, which split Pakistan without seeking credit.

Shah’s earlier remarks, accusing Congress of creating Pakistan and ceding PoK, drew Priyanka’s retort: “My mother’s tears fell when her husband was martyred by terrorists at 44.” Posts on X, with hashtags like #PriyankaVsShah, saw Congress supporters praising her for exposing government lapses, while BJP users countered, accusing her of politicizing a tragedy.
The debate, amid rising terror incidents (1,147 deaths in J&K since 2014), underscores tensions over national security and accountability.
