Chinese smartphone manufacturer OnePlus on Tuesday confirmed the resignation of its India CEO, Robin Liu, while assuring that the company’s operations in the country will continue as usual under its existing local strategy. In a statement, OnePlus thanked Liu for his contributions and wished him well in pursuing his personal interests, emphasising that business continuity in India remains unaffected.
Liu’s exit comes amid ongoing speculation about the company scaling down operations in certain global markets. In January 2026, Liu had addressed circulating rumours, describing claims of market shutdowns as “false” and assuring that OnePlus India was functioning normally. He had stated on X, “We’re operating as usual and will continue to do so. Never Settle.”
Despite reassurances, reports from technology outlets and industry tipsters have highlighted potential cutbacks in OnePlus’s presence in the U.S., U.K., and European markets. Android Headlines noted a decline in shipments in 2024, shelving of select devices—including a second-generation foldable and a compact flagship model—and staffing reductions, suggesting key decisions are increasingly being made from China.

In response to these speculations, OnePlus North America reiterated that operations, updates, and support continue normally, with no confirmation of shutdowns in any market. Analysts suggest that while India will continue to receive the company’s full product range, including budget and mid-range phones, some western markets may see fewer launches due to global realignment of priorities.
Industry observers note that Liu’s resignation, combined with the ongoing global restructuring rumours, may reflect broader strategic shifts for OnePlus. However, the company has stressed that its focus on local markets like India remains strong and that its existing operational plans will proceed without disruption.
The company’s statement reinforces its commitment to India as a key market, even as questions persist about its strategy in Europe and North America. Users are assured of continued service and product availability despite leadership changes.
