Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has assured residents that there is no shortage of essential commodities, including LPG cylinders, diesel, petrol, or kerosene, in the Union Territory. Speaking to the media on Friday after a virtual meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Abdullah urged citizens not to fall prey to rumours that have caused panic buying in recent days.
“A few days back, rumours had led to panic buying, causing queues outside petrol pumps and gas agencies,” Abdullah said. He emphasized that the government is monitoring supply levels daily and that there is no disruption in the availability of essential commodities across Jammu and Kashmir.
The Chief Minister shared details of the virtual meeting, which included all state chief ministers and secretaries. The discussion focused on preparedness amid ongoing tensions in the Middle East, particularly around the Strait of Hormuz, and their potential impact on global fuel supplies. Abdullah said the Cabinet Secretary provided a detailed briefing on the international situation, with particular attention to maintaining uninterrupted supply chains for essential commodities.

Abdullah noted that commercial LPG cylinder supplies, initially restricted to 20% at the start of the conflict, have now increased to 70%, while domestic supplies continue at 100%. “The government has assured an uninterrupted supply, and we will face emerging challenges united, just like COVID-19,” he said, citing Prime Minister Modi’s emphasis on national unity in times of crisis.
The Chief Minister’s statements come amid heightened concerns over fuel and gas availability following global geopolitical tensions. By reiterating the government’s daily monitoring and proactive measures, Abdullah aimed to reassure residents and curb panic buying, emphasizing that citizens can continue to access essential commodities without disruption.
Authorities in Jammu and Kashmir continue to coordinate with central agencies to ensure smooth distribution of LPG, petrol, diesel, and kerosene, while monitoring market dynamics closely. Residents have been advised to remain calm and rely on verified official updates for information on supplies.
