Odisha’s railway network is undergoing a colossal transformation with projects worth over ₹80,000 crore in progress, Union Minister of State for Railways V Somanna declared today. The state’s 2025-26 budget allocation has surged to ₹10,599 crore, a jaw-dropping 12.5-fold jump from the ₹838 crore of 2009-14, fueling a new era of connectivity.
In the past year alone, over ₹25,000 crore has been approved for eight new railway projects, multitracking, and flyover constructions. Additionally, 59 stations are being revamped at a cost of ₹2,379 crore under the Amrit Bharat Station scheme. Bhubaneswar station, inspected today by Somanna and East Coast Railway General Manager Parmeshwar Funkwal, is a flagship project, with redevelopment moving at breakneck speed.
The upgraded Bhubaneswar station will feature an elevated approach road to streamline traffic flow, alongside modern amenities like enhanced accessibility, spacious waiting halls, accessible toilets, lifts, escalators, local product kiosks, advanced passenger information systems, disability-friendly facilities, executive lounges, and commercial spaces. These improvements aim to make travel seamless and inclusive.
With massive investments and cutting-edge infrastructure, Odisha’s railways are set to become a model for India. As Bhubaneswar and beyond gear up for this game-changing upgrade, will Odisha’s tracks lead the nation’s rail revolution? The journey has begun.
