The Ministry of Railways has greenlit a ₹149.32 crore project for a new 5.06 km fourth railway line between Ranital Link Cabin and Bhadrak in Odisha, officials announced on Thursday. Part of the high-density Howrah-Chennai mainline, this stretch is critical for one of India’s busiest rail corridors, according to the East Coast Railway (ECoR).
The new line aims to ease congestion by separating port-bound freight traffic to Dhamra and Paradeep ports from the mainline, enhancing efficiency for both freight and passenger trains. The project is expected to streamline operations, reduce delays, and boost connectivity along the corridor, supporting smoother transport of goods and improved punctuality for express trains.
This development marks a significant step in strengthening Odisha’s rail infrastructure and its role in India’s logistics network.
