Noida authorities have identified 65 high-risk locations across the city following the recent death of 27-year-old software engineer Yuvraj Mehta, who lost his life when his car plunged into a water-filled trench at a sharp, unbarricaded turn in Sector 150 about ten days ago. During a high-level review meeting chaired by newly appointed Noida Authority CEO Krishna Karunesh on Tuesday, officials pinpointed 52 vulnerable spots under the Authority’s direct control for immediate corrective action. The remaining sites fall under other departments and agencies.

The meeting, prompted by widespread outrage over alleged civic negligence, directed that safety measures at the 52 Authority-managed locations—including installation of barricades, warning signs, reflectors, and road repairs—must be completed within one week. For the other 13 spots, notices will be issued to concerned departments with a firm deadline of February 20 to resolve hazards. The tragic incident has already led to protests, the removal of the previous Noida Authority CEO Lokesh M, and termination of a junior engineer over accountability failures.

The review also addressed chronic issues like sewer overflows and waterlogging in village areas, worsened by improper dumping of cow dung and waste into drains. The Authority plans to invite expressions of interest within 10 days for scientific waste disposal solutions. To tackle sewage problems amid rising population, the water department will construct sumps in 12 villages, with work already progressing in Chhalera, Sadarpur, and Garhi Shahdara, and new projects starting in Bahalolpur, Nagli Wajidpur, Nagla Nagli, Chhijarsi, Sarfabad, Gizhor, Yakubpur, Hoshiarpur, and Barola.

Additional measures include underground reservoirs for water supply in Gizhor, Sarfabad, and Mamura, tendering for clearing traffic bottlenecks, ensuring all public toilets function within a week under Build-Operate-Transfer models, and initiating road blacktopping from early March. Sanitation gaps will be bridged by appointing 20 sanitary inspectors via the Government e-Marketplace portal, while encroachments on roads and footpaths face continued crackdowns alongside organized vending zones.

The Sector 150 spot had seen a similar near-fatal truck crash on January 2 due to fog and lack of safety features, yet no preventive steps were taken until Mehta’s death sparked action. The swift response aims to prevent further tragedies in Noida’s rapidly developing areas.
