The Naga People’s Front (NPF) marked a pivotal moment in its history on October 21, 2025, during its General Convention at the Indira Gandhi Stadium in Kohima, coinciding with the party’s 63rd Foundation Day. Over 5,000 active members gathered to unanimously adopt resolutions that will guide the NPF’s political trajectory for the coming years. The event highlighted the party’s commitment to unity and progress, setting the stage for a strengthened regional presence in Nagaland’s political landscape.
In a unanimous vote, the convention ratified the merger of the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) with the NPF, confirming decisions made by the Central Office Bearers (COB) and Central Executive Council (CEC) on October 18, 2025. This integration, achieved through a historic consensus under the joint leadership of NDPP President Chingwang Konyak and NPF leader Dr. Neiphiu Rio, unites two major regional forces into a singular entity. The NPF expressed profound appreciation for Konyak’s contributions, viewing the merger as a strategic step toward collective advancement for the Naga people.
A landmark election during the convention saw Nagaland Chief Minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio unanimously selected as NPF President for the 2025–2030 tenure, alongside a new slate of Central Office Bearers, CEC members, and frontal leaders. The party extended its unwavering confidence and support to Rio’s dual role, emphasizing his vision for inclusive governance.
