Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Tuesday chaired a high-level review meeting to assess preparations for the NEET-UG 2026 re-examination scheduled for June 21. The meeting focused on ensuring that the examination is conducted in a highly secure, transparent and “foolproof” manner, with strict protocols to prevent any malpractice. Officials from the education ministry and examination authorities briefed the minister on preparedness measures across states.
The review was held in the backdrop of the cancellation of the NEET-UG 2026 exam conducted on May 3, which was reportedly scrapped following allegations of irregularities and a suspected paper leak. The examination, which sees participation from more than 22 lakh candidates nationwide, is one of the largest competitive entrance tests in India. The incident has led to increased scrutiny over exam security and administration procedures.
During the meeting, Pradhan directed officials to thoroughly examine the loopholes identified in the previous examination cycle and ensure they are fully addressed before the re-exam. He emphasised the need for strong monitoring mechanisms, real-time oversight, and strict compliance at examination centres. Authorities were asked to ensure that no gap remains in question paper handling, distribution, or centre-level supervision.

The minister also instructed coordination between the National Testing Agency (NTA) and state administrations, including District Magistrates and Superintendents of Police, to strengthen on-ground security arrangements. He called for deployment of adequate personnel, improved surveillance systems, and tighter checks at examination centres to avoid any breach of protocol. The focus, officials said, is to ensure a disruption-free and fair examination process.
In addition to security measures, the Education Minister stressed that candidate welfare should not be compromised. Officials were asked to ensure proper arrangements at centres, including drinking water facilities, transport support, and smooth entry procedures. The government also reiterated that students should face no logistical inconvenience during the re-exam process.
As per the National Testing Agency (NTA), candidates can change their examination city preference until May 21 in case of relocation. The exam will be conducted in offline pen-and-paper mode in 13 languages, with results to be announced later. The NTA has also indicated that NEET-UG will move to a computer-based test format from next year, marking a significant structural shift in the examination system.
