In a move to promote communal harmony, the Maharashtra government has rescheduled the public holiday for Eid-e-Milad in Mumbai city and its suburban district to September 8, 2025, instead of the originally planned September 5.
This decision follows consultations with the Muslim community, which opted to hold the Eid-e-Milad procession on September 8 to avoid overlapping with Anant Chaturdashi on September 6, when Ganesh idol immersion processions are scheduled.
According to a circular issued by the General Administration Department (GAD), the holiday adjustment applies exclusively to Mumbai city and its suburbs, while other districts in Maharashtra will observe the Eid-e-Milad holiday as planned on September 5. The circular further clarified that government offices in Mumbai city and suburbs will function as usual on September 5, ensuring minimal disruption to administrative operations.
This rescheduling reflects a thoughtful effort to balance religious observances and maintain peace during a period of significant cultural festivities in Mumbai.
