Heavy showers lashed several parts of Mumbai on Sunday, July 19, as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast continued rainfall across the city accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds. The weather department has advised residents to remain cautious, as intermittent rain is expected to continue throughout the day. The renewed spell of monsoon showers has brought relief from humid conditions while also raising concerns over possible waterlogging and traffic disruptions in low-lying areas.
According to the IMD, Mumbai is likely to experience generally cloudy skies with periods of moderate rainfall, along with thunderstorms at isolated locations. The department has also warned of lightning and strong gusty winds during intense spells of rain. Civic authorities are closely monitoring the situation and have urged citizens to stay updated with official weather advisories, especially while travelling during adverse weather conditions.
The city had witnessed generally cloudy weather with occasional light to moderate rainfall on Saturday before the intensity of the showers increased again. The return of widespread rainfall marks the continuation of the southwest monsoon over the financial capital after a brief lull. Rainfall activity has remained uneven across different parts of Mumbai, with some areas receiving significantly higher precipitation than others.

Data released by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) showed that the combined water stock in the seven reservoirs supplying drinking water to Mumbai reached 50.77 per cent as of 6:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 18, 2026. Between 8:00 a.m. on July 17 and 8:00 a.m. on July 18, the city recorded an average rainfall of 1.67 mm. During the same period, the eastern suburbs received 15.27 mm of rainfall, while the western suburbs recorded 7.31 mm.
The rainfall recorded during the 24-hour period from 6:00 a.m. on July 17 to 6:00 a.m. on July 18 contributed to a 0.98 per cent increase in the total water stock across Mumbai's reservoir system. The steady rise in reservoir levels is expected to strengthen the city's water reserves during the ongoing monsoon season. Authorities will continue to monitor rainfall patterns and reservoir storage as the IMD predicts further wet weather over the coming days.
