The Rajya Sabha erupted in heated debate as the Opposition, led by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, demanded an immediate discussion on Operation Sindoor and the Pahalgam terror attack. Kharge slammed U.S. President Donald Trump’s repeated claims of mediating a ceasefire between India and Pakistan, calling them “humiliating” for India’s sovereignty and urging clarity on the government’s stance.
BJP leader J P Nadda, the Leader of the House, responded assertively, stating, “The government is fully prepared for a comprehensive discussion on Operation Sindoor and will not shy away from any debate.” Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar promised a thorough discussion, assuring Opposition MPs of ample time to address the issue after consultations with party leaders.
Amid the uproar, Dhankhar adjourned the House until 12 noon, as Opposition members, including Kharge, pushed adjournment notices to prioritize the matter over listed business.
The clash highlights escalating tensions over national security and foreign policy, with Operation Sindoor and Trump’s claims taking center stage in the Monsoon Session.
