The Rajya Sabha was adjourned for the day on Monday after repeated disruptions by Opposition MPs protesting the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise in Bihar. The Upper House faced chaos, with adjournments twice before lunch and a final suspension shortly after 2 pm, halting discussions on key legislative matters.
During the Zero Hour, Deputy Chairman Harivansh rejected 26 notices under Rule 267, including demands to discuss the SIR and alleged discrimination against Bengali migrant workers. Opposition members, including TMC and Congress MPs, protested the decision, raising slogans like “Vote Ki Chori Band Karo” (stop vote theft).
TMC’s Sushmita Dev and others entered the Well of the House, intensifying the uproar. Despite attempts to proceed with the Question Hour at 12 noon and later with The Carriage of Goods by Sea Bill 2025 at 2 pm, persistent sloganeering forced the adjournment.
Earlier, newly elected AIADMK members I S Inbadurai and M Dhanapal took their oaths. The Deputy Chairman also urged members to submit notices via the Digital Sansad portal, noting some still used physical submissions.
The disruptions underscore ongoing tensions over the SIR exercise, with the Opposition demanding its suspension and a debate on its implications.
