Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra launched a fierce critique of the government during the Operation Sindoor debate in Parliament, demanding accountability for the intelligence failure that led to the April 2025 Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed 26 lives. Addressing the Lok Sabha, she questioned why Baisaran Valley, a popular tourist destination, was left unguarded, exposing visitors to a brutal attack by four terrorists.
Gandhi recounted the tragic story of Shubham Dwivedi, killed in front of his wife Aishanya during a family outing. “Children were playing, tourists were enjoying the scenery, and then terrorists emerged from the jungle, killing 26 people,” she said, quoting Aishanya: “I saw my world end. There was not a single security guard.” She criticized the government’s claim that terrorism in Kashmir was eradicated, noting that 1,000-1,500 daily visitors to Baisaran had no protection or first aid.
“Why wasn’t a single soldier deployed?” Gandhi asked, slamming the government for leaving tourists “bhagwan bharose” (to God’s grace) despite assurances of safety. She highlighted Home Minister Amit Shah’s pre-attack claim of defeated terrorism and the Lieutenant Governor’s casual admission of a security lapse months later, with no further accountability. “Are the Prime Minister, Defence Minister, Home Minister, and NSA not responsible for Indians’ security?” she demanded, urging answers for the victims’ families.
