Opposition MPs from the INDIA bloc intensified their protest in the Parliament House complex, wielding banners with slogans like “Discussion not deletion” and “SIR - Silent Invisible Rigging” to demand a rollback of the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter rolls in Bihar.
The MPs, including Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, Shiv Sena (UBT)’s Sanjay Raut, and TMC’s Mahua Moitra, staged their demonstration near Parliament’s Makar Dwar, calling for a debate on the issue in both Houses.
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra criticized the government, stating, “They have become so weak that neither they can face US President Donald Trump nor run Parliament. It’s a simple thing, we are only asking for a discussion on SIR. They can resolve this in five minutes.” Holding “Stop SIR” placards and alleging collusion between the Election Commission and the government, the opposition MPs, including those from Congress, DMK, TMC, and Left parties, conducted a brief march to press their demands.
The protest, marking its eleventh day with a one-day pause on Monday due to the passing of former Jharkhand CM Shibu Soren, accuses the SIR of aiming to disenfranchise voters ahead of Bihar’s Assembly elections. The opposition continues to push for a parliamentary discussion to address their concerns over the voter roll revision process.
