The Lok Sabha was adjourned at 2 pm on Wednesday, marking the third consecutive day of disruptions in the Monsoon session due to opposition protests over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar. Opposition MPs, waving placards and chanting "SIR wapas lo" (Roll back SIR), stormed the Well of the House during Question Hour, prompting repeated adjournments.
The protests, centered on demands for a discussion on the SIR ahead of Bihar’s upcoming assembly polls, led to chaotic scenes. Speaker Om Birla criticized the opposition’s “street-like behaviour,” urging MPs to reflect the aspirations of their constituents through constructive debate. “You are not supposed to carry placards,” Birla said, warning of “decisive action” if disruptions continued.
TDP leader Krishna Prasad Tenneti, chairing the session, adjourned proceedings when sloganeering persisted. The House had earlier been halted until 2 pm due to similar unrest. The opposition’s focus on the SIR and Operation Sindoor has stalled parliamentary functioning since the session began, with no significant business conducted in the first two days.
