A low-intensity earthquake measuring 3.5 on the Richter scale rattled parts of Bageshwar district in Uttarakhand early Tuesday morning, sending frightened residents hurrying out of their homes in search of safety. The seismic event occurred precisely at 7:25 am, as confirmed by the District Disaster Management Office, and was strong enough to be distinctly felt across nearby areas, though it remained within the minor category that typically causes no widespread structural damage.

The epicentre was pinpointed near Kapkot town, situated roughly 30 kilometres away from the Bageshwar district headquarters. This hilly region, part of the seismically active Himalayan zone, frequently registers such low-magnitude tremors due to ongoing tectonic activity beneath the surface. Officials noted that the quake’s shallow depth contributed to residents perceiving noticeable shaking, particularly in villages and settlements close to the epicentral area.

Bageshwar District Disaster Management Officer Shikha Suyal promptly issued an update stating that, as of the latest reports, no casualties or damage to buildings, infrastructure, or property had been recorded. Local authorities conducted immediate ground assessments in the affected localities to rule out any hidden impacts, such as minor cracks in older structures or landslides triggered by the tremor in vulnerable slopes.

Despite the absence of reported harm, the sudden jolt disrupted morning routines and created brief moments of alarm among the population.
