Maharashtra’s higher and technical education department has decided to reschedule both attempts of the Maharashtra Common Entrance Test (MHT-CET) 2027, ensuring that they take place after the Class 12 board examinations. The two examinations, which were initially planned for December 2026 and April 2027, will now be conducted between March and May 2027, following feedback from parents, counsellors and educationists across the state.
The decision marks a change in the state government’s original plan to conduct the first attempt in December and the second in April. Officials said the department received differing opinions from various parts of Maharashtra, particularly rural areas, where parents and counsellors expressed concerns about students having to prepare for the entrance test while managing their Class 12 board examinations.
A senior official from the higher and technical education department said some parents and counsellors from Dharashiv, Nandurbar and Chandrapur had requested that both attempts be scheduled after the board examinations. The department reviewed the feedback and consulted educationists before deciding to abandon the December examination plan. Officials said the revised arrangement is intended to address concerns raised by students and families while retaining the two-attempt format.

Maharashtra announced the introduction of two MHT-CET attempts in November 2025 to bring the state entrance examination closer to national-level tests such as the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE). The format also aims to reduce academic pressure by allowing candidates a second opportunity to improve their performance instead of relying on a single examination attempt for admission to engineering and pharmacy courses.
During the 2025-26 academic year, both MHT-CET attempts were conducted in April and May because the decision to introduce the revised format came late in the preceding year. For the current academic year, the state had initially planned to move the first attempt to December 2026, followed by the second in April 2027. The revised schedule will instead place both examinations after the Class 12 board exams, with a gap of four weeks between the two attempts.
Officials also confirmed that the highest score obtained by a candidate across the two attempts will be considered, continuing the approach followed this year. The provisional schedule for all Common Entrance Tests for the current academic year is expected to be announced within the next week. Candidates preparing for MHT-CET 2027 will need to follow the official schedule once it is released for confirmed examination dates and further details.
