West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, during an administrative review in Bolpur, Birbhum district, directed officials to prevent harassment during electoral roll revisions. She accused the BJP of targeting religious minorities, the poor, and Other Backward Classes (OBCs), alleging deliberate persecution.
Banerjee announced a dedicated scheme to support Bengali migrants facing harassment in states like Gujarat, Haryana, Rajasthan, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, and Maharashtra. “The scheme will ensure safe returns, provide ration and job cards, and offer temporary shelters for those without homes,” she stated, emphasizing the need to assist affected migrants.
Labeling the alleged persecution as “politically motivated,” Banerjee urged solidarity with victims, stating, “Not just religious minorities, but the poor and OBCs are being targeted. We must stand by all persecuted Bengali migrants.” She also instructed police and officials to actively implement the ‘Amar Para, Amar Samadhan’ scheme to address local civic and security concerns.
