With just nine days left for the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) 2026 on December 7, NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad, has introduced a critical last-minute change to its seat matrix, affecting all candidates who applied under the Scheduled Caste – Telangana Local (SC-TL) quota for both the five-year integrated LLB and one-year LLM programs.
Following the Telangana State Rationalization of Reservations of SC Act, NALSAR has subdivided the earlier unified SC-TL category into three distinct groups:
- SC-TL (Group I)
- SC-TL (Group II)
- SC-TL (Group III)
Candidates who originally selected the SC-TL category must log in to their CLAT 2026 account and update their specific subgroup by 11:59 pm on December 1, 2025. Failure to do so will result in forfeiture of claim to these reserved seats.

The official Telangana Act document detailing which Scheduled Caste communities fall under each group has been uploaded on the Consortium of NLUs website (consortiumofnlus.ac.in). Candidates can follow these steps to update:
- Log in to the CLAT 2026 account
- Click the “Update SC-TL Reservation” button
- Select the correct sub-group from the dropdown
- Save the changes
This is the only NLU making such a change; the seat matrices of the other 24 participating National Law Universities remain unchanged.
The Consortium has warned that no further extensions will be granted beyond the December 1 deadline. With over 70,000 candidates expected to appear for CLAT 2026 in the single 2 pm–4 pm shift on December 7, the sudden requirement has triggered anxiety among SC-TL applicants, many of whom are in the final stages of exam preparation.
The update underscores the importance of regularly checking the official CLAT portal in the run-up to the test, as last-minute policy alignments by individual NLUs can significantly impact seat allocation during counselling.
