Manipur Police have struck a major blow against drug trafficking, seizing a staggering 10.5 kilograms of suspected heroin in two linked operations this week in Imphal East district.
The latest haul, uncovered on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, involved 5 kilograms of the narcotic powder stashed inside 419 soap cases found in an abandoned Bolero vehicle. This discovery followed the arrest of three drug smugglers on Tuesday, March 25, with 5.5 kilograms of heroin concealed in 461 soap cases, bringing the total recovery to 880 soap cases.
The breakthrough began when police apprehended the trio on Tuesday, confiscating their illicit cargo. Acting swiftly on leads from that bust, authorities tracked down the deserted vehicle the next day.
“In follow-up action to the arrests, we located the abandoned Bolero in Imphal East and recovered approximately 5 kilograms of suspected heroin powder hidden in 419 soap cases,” a police official revealed. The force detailed the operation on X, emphasizing their relentless pursuit of the drug network.
With Manipur’s proximity to Myanmar—a key heroin production hub—these seizures underscore the state’s role as a trafficking corridor. The combined haul, valued in crores on the black market, signals a disturbing spike in smuggling activity.
An intensive investigation is now underway to dismantle the syndicate, with police probing the supply chain and potential accomplices. As the crackdown continues, authorities remain on high alert, determined to choke the flow of narcotics plaguing the region.
