A woman attending the Mahakumbh Mela 2025 in Prayagraj has gone viral for an unusual act—submerging her phone in the Ganga so her husband could take a ‘holy dip’ via video call.
In the widely circulated clip, Shilpa Chauhan is seen eagerly approaching the river while her husband remains comfortably in bed on the other end of the call. She then dips her phone multiple times into the water, shakes it off, and lifts it back up, seemingly completing the ritual.
The video has amassed over 2.36 lakh likes, drawing a mix of amusement and criticism. One user quipped, “Phone k saare paap dhul gaye” (the phone’s sins have been washed away), while another joked, “Tell him to dry his hair, or he’ll catch a cold.” Others called it an example of ‘common sense not being so common.’
Meanwhile, Mahakumbh 2025, the world’s largest religious gathering, is concluding with the final Amrit Snan on February 26. Over 63 crore devotees have already participated, taking a dip at the Triveni Sangam—the sacred confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati rivers.
Lakhs of pilgrims flocked to Prayagraj for the final Shahi Snan on Maha Shivratri. The ritual began at dawn, with government projections estimating a 1-2 crore turnout by the end of the day.
In Varanasi, the annual Shiv Baraat procession has been postponed for the first time due to an anticipated post-Kumbh surge in devotees. Meanwhile, Madhya Pradesh CM Mohan Yadav performed special prayers at the Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga temple, and Delhi CM Rekha Gupta joined BJP MP Praveen Khandelwal at the Gauri Shankar Temple.
The Mahakumbh, held once every 12 years, commenced on January 13 with grand processions of Naga Sadhus and has witnessed three Amrit Snans. With a record-breaking 64 crore pilgrims, it reaffirms its status as a monumental spiritual event.
