Neeraj Mittal, Secretary of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, on Thursday assured that the LPG supply in India remains stable, with vessels continuing to arrive via the Strait of Hormuz despite recent geopolitical tensions in West Asia. Speaking to the media, he emphasized that there is no shortage of LPG anywhere in the country and that domestic supplies are fully secure.
“All domestic supplies are at 100 per cent. Around 70 per cent of packed LPG has already been issued,” Mittal said, noting that minor local supply chain issues may occur but are routine and managed daily. He stressed that overall distribution and availability across the country remain unaffected.
Addressing concerns about shipping disruptions, Mittal confirmed that vessel movements have continued without delay, even amid a temporary blockage in the region. “Ships have been continuously coming even when there was a blockage. It takes its normal travel time. We are not talking about any delay in crossing the Strait,” he said, adding that the government is closely monitoring the situation and will take necessary steps if required.

Mittal also highlighted the broader lessons from recent West Asia crises, underscoring the importance of planning for adverse situations and strengthening India’s energy security. He noted that India imports crude oil from 41 countries, natural gas from 30 countries, and LPG from 13 countries, emphasizing diversification as a key strategy to avoid supply disruptions.
Meanwhile, the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB), in collaboration with Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL), began a two-day conference on energy security and India’s growing gas demand. The conference focused on the role of natural gas in India’s energy mix, infrastructure investment needs, and regulatory frameworks to ensure long-term energy stability.
The event also aimed to address key challenges and promote innovation within the gas sector as India strengthens its energy resilience amid global uncertainties. Mittal reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring reliable gas availability for all sectors while planning strategically for future energy challenges.
