The state government has announced the disbursement of two months’ social security and welfare pensions as an “Onam gift,” starting August 23, 2025. Finance Minister K N Balagopal revealed that Rs 1,679 crore has been allocated to provide Rs 3,200 to approximately 62 lakh beneficiaries, covering one current instalment and one in arrears, ensuring a joyous Onam season for millions.
The initiative will see 26.62 lakh beneficiaries receive their Rs 3,200 payment directly credited to their bank accounts, streamlining access to these vital funds. For others, the state has arranged home delivery of pensions through cooperative banks, ensuring inclusivity for those without direct banking access. “This timely distribution reflects our commitment to supporting Kerala’s most vulnerable during the festive season,” Balagopal said in an official release.
Additionally, under the National Pension Scheme, the central government will contribute its share to 8.46 lakh beneficiaries. To facilitate this, Kerala has sanctioned an advance of Rs 48.42 crore, which will be credited through the central government’s Public Financial Management System (PFMS). This dual-channel approach underscores the state’s efforts to ensure seamless delivery of welfare benefits.
