A man in Kasaragod, Kerala, allegedly removed the fuses from seven transformers on Friday evening, causing a significant power outage across Kasaragod town and surrounding areas. The incident occurred around 6:45 pm after the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) disconnected power to his home due to unpaid bills. KSEB officials reported that residents quickly notified them of the outage, but initial inspections showed no technical faults on the lines.
Upon further investigation, KSEB teams found the fuses deliberately removed and abandoned near the transformers, some severely damaged. Spare fuses were used to restore electricity by 8 pm, but the act caused an outage lasting over an hour, affecting many residents. Witnesses reported seeing the man removing the fuses, prompting KSEB to inform local police.
The suspect, living under the Nellikuzi section, had earlier created a scene at the KSEB office after his power was cut off for non-payment. Police have taken him into custody for questioning. According to authorities, the man claims to suffer from mental health issues and lives with his elderly father. The police will decide on further action once KSEB files a formal complaint regarding the damage and disruption.
