In a disturbing incident at a taluk hospital in Palakkad, Kerala, a 43-year-old man identified as Gopakumar was arrested on Friday, September 5, 2025, for allegedly assaulting a doctor and two staff members. The attack occurred late Thursday night at around 11 pm, when Gopakumar accompanied his injured wife to the hospital in Ambalappara, Chunangadu, Ottapalam.
According to police reports, Dr. Umar Farook was attending to Gopakumar’s wife and inquired about the cause of her injury. This seemingly routine interaction triggered Gopakumar, who became agitated and physically attacked the doctor. When a security officer and a receptionist intervened to protect Dr. Farook, Gopakumar allegedly turned on them, assaulting both before fleeing the scene. One of the victims sustained injuries during the altercation.
Following the incident, police registered a case under the Kerala Healthcare Service Persons and Healthcare Service Institutions (Prevention of Violence and Damage to Property) Act and relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Gopakumar was apprehended on Friday morning, brought before a court, and remanded to judicial custody.
