In a stern address on August 12, 2025, at an official programme in Kannur, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan called on police personnel to remain steadfast in countering "dark forces" attempting to sow contempt and hatred within society. Highlighting Kerala's reputation for a peaceful social atmosphere compared to other parts of India, Vijayan warned of deliberate efforts by certain groups to undermine this harmony, noting that such attempts may take various forms and could escalate in the near future.
"Police should show constant vigilance against such dark forces who propagate hatred and contempt in the society," Vijayan emphasized, urging law enforcement to act decisively against those involved in illegal activities without waiting for external directives. He stressed the importance of preserving the state's tranquil environment, ensuring no incident disrupts the peaceful lives of Kerala's citizens.
The Chief Minister also praised the existing cooperation between the police and the public, which has facilitated robust action against anti-social elements and the drug mafia. To further bolster these efforts, Vijayan announced that the government would take steps to strengthen "social policing" across the state, reinforcing Kerala's commitment to maintaining social harmony and public safety.
