Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has firmly committed to introducing a comprehensive special law specifically designed to combat and eradicate the menace of honour killings across the state, a decision prompted by the recent horrific murder of a pregnant woman in Hubballi who was allegedly killed by her own family members for choosing an inter-caste marriage.
In a detailed statement posted on his official X account on Sunday, January 5, 2026, the Chief Minister voiced profound outrage over the brutal killing of Manya, a young resident of Inam Veerapur in Hubballi taluk, describing honour killings, forced marriages, and caste-driven violence as profoundly shameful and inhuman practices that compel society to confront its deepest failures in upholding basic human dignity.
Siddaramaiah pledged expeditious justice for the victim, confirming that a case has been registered under relevant sections encompassing atrocities against Dalits and murder, with strict instructions issued to file the chargesheet within the mandated 60-day period, appoint a dedicated special public prosecutor, and constitute a fast-track court to ensure a swift and effective trial process.

He articulated a broader vision for the proposed legislation, emphasizing its dual role in imposing stringent deterrents against perpetrators while simultaneously fostering widespread public awareness and education to dismantle entrenched social prejudices that perpetuate such barbaric acts in modern society.
This initiative represents a significant proactive measure by the Congress-led government to address persistent caste-based crimes, signaling an intent to strengthen legal frameworks and societal safeguards in Karnataka, where sporadic incidents of honour-related violence continue to challenge progressive ideals and constitutional guarantees of equality.
