A Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus driver died and more than 10 passengers were injured after the bus collided with a tractor carrying iron rods near Varahasandra Gate in Mandya district. The accident occurred in Nagamangala taluk under the jurisdiction of Bellur Police Station. The collision caused the rods and metal bars being transported on the tractor to pierce through the front portion of the bus.

The KSRTC bus reportedly rammed into the tractor from behind while travelling along the stretch near Varahasandra Gate. The impact sent the iron rods being carried by the tractor into the bus, causing significant damage to its front section. The bus's front mirror was shattered, while several metal rods were seen protruding through the vehicle following the collision.

The bus driver, identified as Shekhar, a native of Hassan, died at the accident spot. The rods reportedly penetrated the driver's body during the collision. More than 10 passengers also sustained injuries in the accident, with eight of the injured reportedly in critical condition.

The injured passengers were taken for medical treatment at AIIMS in Bellur, where they are receiving care. The severity of the injuries has prompted continued medical attention, while further details about the condition of those hospitalised are awaited. Police are also expected to establish the circumstances that led to the bus striking the tractor from behind.

The accident left the tractor overturned and caused extensive damage to the front of the KSRTC bus. Images from the accident site showed multiple iron rods piercing through the bus, highlighting the force of the collision. Police personnel under Bellur Police Station jurisdiction are handling the incident and further details are expected as the investigation progresses.
