In a significant meeting, Tamil cinema icon Kamal Haasan met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Thursday, sharing glimpses of their interaction on social media. The 70-year-old actor, known for his influential voice in both cinema and culture, posted a series of pictures on his X handle, accompanied by a heartfelt note detailing his requests to the PM.
Haasan, representing the aspirations of Tamil Nadu’s people, passionately urged Modi to expedite the recognition of Keeladi’s archaeological significance, a site that holds clues to the ancient Tamil civilization. “I placed before him a few requests, foremost among them was the call to expedite the recognition of Keeladi’s antiquity,” Haasan wrote. He further emphasized the need for global acknowledgment of Tamil culture, stating, “I urged the Prime Minister to extend his support to the Tamil people in showcasing to the world the grandeur of Tamil civilisation and the timeless glory of the Tamil language.”
The meeting underscores Haasan’s commitment to cultural preservation alongside his cinematic endeavors. His latest project, Thug Life, directed by Mani Ratnam, hit theaters on June 5, featuring a stellar cast including Silambarasan TR, Trisha Krishnan, and Aishwarya Lekshmi. The film has been lauded for its gripping narrative and powerful performances, cementing Haasan’s legacy as a multifaceted artist.
