Sunday morning turned disastrous for Haryana as an intense blanket of dense fog covered large parts of the state, reducing visibility to near-zero levels. In several areas, visibility dropped to 10 metres or less, while some pockets recorded visibility below 5 metres, creating extremely dangerous driving conditions on highways and city roads.
The poor visibility led to a series of major road accidents across multiple districts, with over 50 vehicles colliding in separate incidents. Traffic movement was severely disrupted, emergency services were stretched, and commuters faced long delays as police and rescue teams worked to clear wreckage from key routes.
The most tragic accident occurred in Rohtak district’s Meham area near the 152D cut, where a truck and a car collided head-on in the dense fog. The crash proved fatal for the car occupants, and within minutes, a chain reaction followed, involving 35 to 40 vehicles piling into each other, making it one of the worst fog-related accidents of the season.

In Hisar, a major tragedy was narrowly avoided on National Highway-52 near Dhiktana Mor, where two Haryana Roadways buses collided with a dumper, a car, and a motorcycle. Although the crash involved five vehicles, more than 100 bus passengers escaped unhurt, while a motorcyclist sustained injuries and was hospitalised. Traffic on the Hisar–Chandigarh route remained disrupted for hours.
Similar accidents were reported from Jhajjar and Charkhi Dadri districts. On the Jhajjar–Rewari road, two buses collided, leaving several passengers injured and the driver in critical condition. In Charkhi Dadri, multiple vehicles, including a school van, were involved in a fog-induced collision, though all children onboard were reported safe.
The dense fog also disrupted air services, prompting authorities to cancel the Hisar–Delhi flight under the revised winter schedule from December 16 until further notice. The India Meteorological Department has issued a dense fog alert for 11 districts, urging motorists to drive cautiously, use fog lights, and maintain safe distances as cold wave conditions continue to intensify across the state.
