A Pakistani intruder was apprehended by the Border Security Force (BSF) along the International Border (IB) in the R S Pura sector of Jammu on Sunday night, prompting the BSF to lodge a formal protest with Pakistan Rangers.
The incident, occurring at the Octroi outpost in Suchetgarh tehsil, has heightened tensions along the volatile border.
The intruder, identified as Siraj Khan from village 27-Chak in Bhalwal tehsil, Punjab province, Pakistan, was spotted crossing the IB at 9:10 PM. BSF personnel, maintaining high alert, observed Khan aggressively approaching the border fence. Despite repeated warnings, he continued, leading troops to fire and subsequently detain him. A search revealed two Pakistani currency notes (Rs 20 and Rs 10) in his possession. Khan has been handed over to the local police for further investigation.

The BSF stated that a protest would be lodged with Pakistan Rangers over the incursion, signaling a diplomatic response to the breach. The incident follows recent flash floods that damaged border fencing and posts, prompting the BSF to intensify vigilance along the Jammu frontier. This heightened security aims to prevent unauthorized crossings and maintain stability in the region. Such incidents underscore ongoing challenges along the India-Pakistan border, where intrusions and ceasefire violations occasionally disrupt peace efforts.
The BSF’s swift action highlights its commitment to safeguarding the IB, especially amid environmental challenges like flooding that weaken infrastructure. Authorities are likely to probe Khan’s motives, as cross-border tensions remain a critical issue in the region.
