On the sixth anniversary of the violent mob assault on Jawaharlal Nehru University campus, the Jawaharlal Nehru University Teachers' Association has issued a strong condemnation, highlighting that the perpetrators who wielded rods and stones against students and faculty remain unidentified and unpunished. The association described the January 5, 2020, incident as a barbarous attack that left dozens injured, yet the identities of both the assailants and their alleged backers continue to be shielded from justice.
In a detailed statement released on Monday, JNUTA accused the Delhi Police and the university administration of deliberate inaction, asserting that the prolonged failure to apprehend those responsible demonstrates not mere incompetence but active complicity. The teachers' body criticized authorities for displaying leniency toward individuals engaged in criminal violence while simultaneously misusing power to target and silence innocent members of the academic community.
The association further pointed out the poignant timing of the anniversary, noting that former JNU students Umar Khalid and Sharjeel Imam have once again been denied bail after enduring more than five years of incarceration without a trial. These prolonged detentions without resolution were presented as emblematic of broader systemic issues in handling cases linked to the university's politically charged environment.

Despite the severity of the 2020 assault and its intended goal of intimidating the campus into silence, JNUTA emphasized that the attack ultimately failed in its objective. The academic community has persisted in its resistance against what it perceives as ongoing efforts to undermine the institution's autonomy and democratic ethos.
JNUTA President Surajit Majumdar declared that the struggle to preserve the university's integrity continues undiminished six years later, affirming that the attackers are neither truly unknown nor will they ever be forgotten by those committed to seeking accountability and justice.
