Ranchi, Jul 21, 2025 – Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren announced the launch of India’s pioneering mining tourism initiative, with the Jharkhand Tourism Development Corporation (JTDC) signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Coal India’s subsidiary, Central Coalfields Limited (CCL), on Monday. The project, inspired by Soren’s visit to the Gava Museum of Mines in Barcelona, aims to showcase Jharkhand’s rich mining heritage, leveraging its 40% share of India’s mineral resources.

The initiative, formalized in the presence of State Tourism Minister Sudivya Kumar, will offer tourists an immersive experience at sites like CCL’s North Urimari Mines in Ramgarh, with plans to expand to other locations. “This is a bold step to blend tourism, education, and innovation,” an official stated, emphasizing responsible exploration of Jharkhand’s coal and mineral legacy. The move aligns with the state’s tourism policy, promising economic and cultural benefits.
