Heavy rainfall has brought chaos to the Jammu region, shutting down 11 critical roads, including the Jammu-Srinagar national highway, due to landslides, mudslides, and falling boulders. Over 2,000 vehicles remain stranded as clearance teams battle relentless rains and flash floods to restore access.
The 250-km Jammu-Srinagar highway, a lifeline connecting the Kashmir Valley to the rest of India, is blocked by landslides, washed-out road sections, and debris at multiple points. Other major routes, such as the Jammu-Rajouri-Poonch highway, Batote-Doda-Kishtwar highway, Simthan-Anantnag road, and Mughal Road, are also closed due to similar hazards or as a precaution.
According to J-K traffic police, roads like the Sonamarg-Srinagar-Gumari and Sinthan routes are impassable due to landslides and "shooting stones". Authorities have urged commuters to avoid travel until the weather clears and roads are restored. A sunken road section at Thard, Udhampur, along with multiple blockages, has halted all traffic from Jakheni (Udhampur) toward Srinagar and from Nagrota (Jammu) toward Reasi, Chenani, Patnitop, Doda, Ramban, Banihal, and Srinagar.

Commuters in Katra and Udhampur are advised to carry photo ID cards to facilitate local movement. Meanwhile, over 300 vehicles are stuck on the Jammu-Rajouri-Poonch highway, closed since Tuesday night near the Kandi tunnel in Chowki Choura due to a damaged road surface. Efforts are ongoing to restore this route to ensure essential services reach Rajouri and Poonch.
The Batote-Doda-Kishtwar highway is also shut after landslides in the Pul Doda area, leaving several vehicles stranded. Similarly, the Kishtwar-Sinthan-Anantnag highway and Mughal Road remain closed. Nine inter-district roads in Kathua, Rajouri, Doda, Kishtwar, Ramban, and Reasi are also blocked by landslides and debris.
As clearance operations continue under tough conditions, authorities are prioritising road restoration to reconnect communities and ensure the flow of essential supplies.
