YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy unleashed a scathing attack on the TDP-led Andhra Pradesh government, accusing it of detaining and assaulting farmers during his visit to Bangarupalem mango market yard in Chittoor on Wednesday. In a fiery post on X, Reddy alleged that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu’s administration misrepresented the plight of 76,000 mango farmers, who cultivated 6.5 lakh tonnes across 2.2 lakh acres but were forced to dump their produce roadside due to plummeting prices as low as Rs 2 per kg.
Reddy claimed over 1,200 farmers faced harassment and arrests, branding the government’s tactics as “repressive” and questioning its labeling of protesters as “anti-social elements.” He demanded why mango procurement, typically starting in early May, was delayed, causing a market glut, and why farmers weren’t offered a Minimum Support Price (MSP) of Rs 12 per kg, compared to Rs 25–29 per kg under his YSRCP rule.
The former CM highlighted his government’s Rs 7,800 crore crop procurement and functional Rythu Bharosa Kendras (RBKs), contrasting it with the current regime’s alleged failure to provide MSP for crops like paddy, chilli, tobacco, and mangoes, alongside defunct subsidies and insurance.
