Israeli forces killed a Palestinian couple and their two young children in the occupied West Bank town of Tammun on Sunday morning, according to the Palestinian health ministry. The incident has drawn sharp condemnation amid rising violence in the region.
The Ramallah-based health ministry reported that the bodies of a 37-year-old man, a 35-year-old woman, and their sons aged five and seven arrived at Tubas' Turkish Public Hospital with gunshot wounds. The Palestinian Red Crescent recovered the family from a vehicle fired upon by Israeli troops. Two other siblings, aged eight and 11, sustained shrapnel injuries, per WAFA news agency.
The Israeli military stated it was investigating the reports but provided no immediate details on the operation's context. Tammun lies in the northern West Bank near Tubas, where Israel launched anti-militant raids in November amid broader escalation since the October 2023 Gaza war. Palestinian authorities note at least five deaths from settler or military actions since early March.

Violence in the West Bank has surged, with over 1,045 Palestinians killed by Israeli forces or settlers since October 2023, many combatants but including civilians, per AFP tallies from health ministry data. Israeli figures report 45 deaths from Palestinian attacks during the same period. A UN-brokered Gaza ceasefire in October 2025 failed to curb West Bank clashes.
The family tragedy underscores the toll on civilians, including children, in ongoing operations targeting armed groups. Rights monitors highlight settler spikes and military raids as key drivers, fueling cycles of retaliation despite diplomatic efforts.
International calls for probes and restraint intensify, with fears of wider unrest. The incident occurs as Israel faces multi-front pressures from Iran, Gaza, and Lebanon, complicating West Bank security dynamics.
