Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar unveiled a transformative plan on Sunday to provide jobs and employment opportunities to one crore youths by 2030, doubling the state’s 2020-25 target. Announced ahead of the 2025 assembly elections, the initiative includes establishing the Jananayak Karpuri Thakur Skill University to drive skill development for self-employment and industrial growth.
Ambitious Targets: Kumar aims to surpass the 2020-25 goal of 50 lakh jobs (12 lakh government, 38 lakh employment), with 10 lakh government jobs and 39 lakh opportunities already achieved. A high-level committee will boost private-sector jobs, focusing on industrial areas.
Skill Development: The new university, named after Bharat Ratna Karpoori Thakur, will expand the Saat Nischay programme’s skilling efforts, addressing Bihar’s 13.1% unemployment rate (2024 PLFS data).
