Indian Coast Guard (ICG) commissioned the advanced Fast Patrol Vessel (FPV) 'Adamya' on Friday along the Odisha coast, marking a pivotal step in enhancing patrolling capabilities in the strategically vital eastern seaboard. The ceremony, held at the ICG berth in Paradip Port between 8:45 AM and 10:30 AM, was graced by Satyajit Mohanty, Joint Secretary (Defence Policy, Armed Forces Wing, CSD & Planning), who formally inducted the vessel into service amid a display of naval precision and national pride.
'Adamya', the lead ship in a series of eight FPVs being constructed by Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL) under the prestigious '8 FPV Project', embodies India's push towards self-reliance in defense manufacturing, boasting over 60% indigenous content. This state-of-the-art vessel, designed in-house by GSL and compliant with standards from the Indian Register of Shipping and the American Bureau of Shipping, measures 52 meters in length with an 8-meter beam. Powered by a controllable pitch propeller (CPP)-based propulsion system, it achieves a top speed of 50 kmph (27 knots), enabling rapid deployment for high-stakes missions.
Stationed permanently at Paradip, 'Adamya' will be crewed by five officers and 34 enlisted personnel, equipped with cutting-edge navigation, communication, and surveillance systems for multifaceted operations. Its primary roles include robust EEZ (Exclusive Economic Zone) patrols to protect India's vast marine resources, curbing illegal fishing and smuggling, countering piracy threats, and executing swift search-and-rescue (SAR) missions for mariners in distress. The vessel's quick-reaction capabilities will also extend to coastal surveillance, anti-infiltration efforts along vulnerable shores, and wartime escort duties, serving as a force multiplier for the ICG's humanitarian and law enforcement endeavors.

This induction aligns with the ICG's broader modernization drive, following the simultaneous launch of 'Adamya' and sister ship 'Akshar' in October 2024 by Priya Paramesh, wife of ICG Director General Paramesh Sivamani. With the eastern coastline increasingly exposed to transnational crimes and natural hazards, 'Adamya's' deployment promises heightened vigilance, deterring illicit activities while safeguarding Odisha's thriving fishing communities and trade routes. As India fortifies its 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat' vision in maritime defense, 'Adamya' stands ready to patrol the waves, ensuring safer seas for the nation.
