The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Mumbai, Thane, Palghar and Raigad, forecasting heavy rainfall as monsoon activity intensifies due to a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal. Civic authorities have advised residents to remain cautious, but educational institutions have not been directed to suspend classes.
According to the IMD, moderate rainfall is expected to continue until 22 July, with heavy showers likely in parts of Palghar and Thane. The weather department has attributed the persistent rainfall to favourable monsoon conditions strengthened by the low-pressure system, which has increased rainfall activity across Maharashtra's Konkan coast. Authorities continue to monitor the situation as weather conditions evolve.
Heavy rain lashed several parts of Mumbai on Sunday and Monday, leading to waterlogging in low-lying areas. Videos shared on social media showed flooded roads and slow-moving traffic at several locations, reflecting the impact of the renewed monsoon spell.
