The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur has completed the training of more than 140 personnel from the Indian Army's Central Command under its specialised cybersecurity certification programme. The latest batch of 70 participants recently completed the six-month course, which was conducted by C3iHub, IIT Kanpur's Technology Innovation Hub for Cybersecurity, with a valedictory ceremony held at the Army's Central Command headquarters in Lucknow.
The hybrid certification programme has been designed to strengthen the cyber defence capabilities of Army personnel through a combination of classroom instruction and practical training. Structured over six months, the course is divided into a three-month Basic Module followed by a three-month Advanced Module, enabling participants to develop both foundational and advanced cybersecurity skills.
The Basic Module covers subjects including Linux systems, networking, cyber threat intelligence, operating system security, Security Operations Centre (SOC) operations and incident response. Participants also receive hands-on training using widely adopted cybersecurity tools such as Burp Suite, Wireshark, Nmap, Nessus and Splunk, providing practical exposure to real-world cyber defence techniques.

The Advanced Module is offered to top-performing participants from the Basic Module and focuses on more specialised areas of cybersecurity. Topics include artificial intelligence-driven security analytics, security automation, malware analysis, digital and network forensics, vulnerability assessment and penetration testing (VAPT), as well as big data-based log analysis. Participants are required to successfully complete both theoretical and practical assessments to earn certification from C3iHub.
With the completion of the second batch, a total of 140 Army personnel have now been trained under the initiative. IIT Kanpur said the programme reflects its continued collaboration with the Indian Army's Central Command to build stronger cyber defence capabilities through structured, practice-oriented training tailored to modern security challenges.
C3iHub was established at IIT Kanpur under the National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems to promote research, innovation and capacity building in cybersecurity. In addition to supporting advanced research, the hub conducts specialised training programmes aimed at developing skilled cybersecurity professionals for the armed forces and other strategic sectors, helping strengthen India's digital security ecosystem.
