The Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (HPTDC) and Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) have signed a strategic MoU in Shimla on Tuesday, aiming to enhance tourism in the state. The collaboration seeks to provide seamless and comfortable travel experiences for tourists across Himachal Pradesh.
Under the agreement, tourists will be able to avail of integrated travel packages combining rail travel with accommodation in HPTDC hotels and other hospitality services. These packages are designed to offer convenience, cost-effectiveness, and ease of planning for travelers nationwide.
The MoU was signed in the presence of Harjot Singh Sandhu, IRTS Chief Regional Manager, IRCTC Regional Office, Chandigarh, and Rajeev Kumar, Managing Director of HPTDC, along with senior officials from both organisations. The initiative marks a step toward strengthening collaboration between state-run tourism entities and Indian Railways.

Rajeev Kumar highlighted that the partnership is aimed at increasing HPTDC’s revenue while improving last-mile connectivity for tourists. “This initiative will provide travellers with reliable, standardised services throughout their journey, enhancing their overall experience in Himachal Pradesh,” he said.
By offering customised travel packages covering transportation, boarding, and lodging, the collaboration ensures tourists can move smoothly from one destination to another. It also allows HPTDC to better compete with private players in the tourism and hospitality sector by leveraging IRCTC’s extensive network.
The early rollout of these packages is expected to attract more domestic tourists to Himachal Pradesh, boost occupancy in HPTDC hotels, and strengthen the state’s position as a preferred tourist destination. This partnership also reflects a growing trend of public sector cooperation to promote tourism and provide integrated travel solutions.
