Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced major reforms in the state’s education policy during a public meeting on January 5, 2026. The government plans to appoint special instructors for English and mathematics in government schools transitioning to the CBSE curriculum. This initiative aims to strengthen foundational learning and improve overall academic performance across the state. The recruitment process for these specialized teachers is expected to begin shortly. Sukhu made the announcement while addressing residents in his ancestral village, Bhawran.
The Chief Minister highlighted several educational developments during his one-day visit to the Nadaun Assembly constituency in Hamirpur district. He stated that Amlehar School has been granted CBSE affiliation, marking a significant step in modernizing education. Work on the Rajiv Gandhi Day Boarding School is progressing rapidly, with classes scheduled to begin next year. Multiple new subjects will be introduced in four selected schools, including Amlehar, allowing students to choose areas of interest. These changes reflect the government’s commitment to providing quality and diverse education opportunities.
Sukhu also urged farmers to adopt natural farming practices, emphasizing the financial benefits involved. The state government is offering ₹90 per kg for turmeric grown through natural methods, enabling farmers to earn up to ₹3 lakh from just five kanals of land. He further informed that subsidies are available for setting up solar plants on barren land. Young people can generate a net annual profit of up to ₹3 lakh by installing solar units on four kanals.
