Madhya Pradesh is on the boil over an escalating fertiliser crisis, with widespread protests, scuffles, and emotional appeals from farmers desperate for supplies. Shocking videos from Bhind, Morena, Sheopur, Rewa, and Satna show long queues, police baton charges, and chaotic scenes at fertiliser distribution centres. The unrest has reached new heights after an image of Congress MLA Kailash Kushwaha standing in line wearing a helmet went viral, capturing the deep frustration of the farming community.
The viral photograph shows Kushwaha, MLA from Pohri in Shivpuri district, dressed like a common farmer as he queued for fertiliser tokens at the Pohri Agricultural Produce Market. Explaining his symbolic act, he said, “Farmers have been standing in line since 4 a.m., yet no officer or administrator is present. There’s pushing, shoving, and no arrangement for drinking water.” The legislator added that tokens were allegedly being distributed selectively, with local officials showing favoritism while genuine farmers were left out.
Ground reports indicate that tempers are particularly high in rural districts, as the sowing season is in full swing and delays in fertiliser supply could devastate crop schedules. In Rewa, police resorted to lathicharge to disperse the crowd, while in Satna, BJP MLA Pratima Bagri had to change her route amid growing protests. Farmers claim both urea and DAP stocks are insufficient, forcing them to queue for hours with no guarantee of receiving supplies.

However, the state’s Farmer Welfare and Agriculture Development Minister, Edal Singh Kansana, denied any crisis, insisting that adequate stocks were available. He claimed that between April and September 2025, 16.19 lakh metric tonnes of urea and 9.71 lakh metric tonnes of DAP had been distributed, with seven to eight new fertiliser racks arriving daily. But the visual evidence on the ground — of exhausted farmers, chaos at distribution points, and a helmeted legislator demanding justice — tells a starkly different story of a system struggling to meet its promises.
