Torrential rains battered Telangana on Friday morning, severely disrupting daily life and paralysing transportation across several regions, particularly in Hyderabad. The downpour caused widespread waterlogging and traffic chaos, leaving office-goers stranded and facing significant commuting challenges. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had forecasted heavy rainfall, prompting authorities to take proactive measures to mitigate the impact on residents and infrastructure.

According to the Telangana Development Planning Society, Narva in Narayanpet district recorded the highest rainfall at 44.3 mm between 8:30 AM and 11:00 AM, followed closely by Mujahidpur in Vikarabad district with 44 mm. In Hyderabad, Dabeerpura reported 28.5 mm of rain, while Adarshnagar in Qutbullapur saw 18 mm. The intense rainfall overwhelmed drainage systems in the state capital, leading to inundated roads and prolonged traffic jams, particularly in key commercial and residential areas.

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy responded swiftly, directing officials to remain vigilant and address the crisis effectively. He instructed the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and other civic agencies to prioritise clearing waterlogged areas and restoring smooth traffic flow. The Chief Minister emphasised the need for coordinated efforts to minimise disruptions and ensure public safety amid the adverse weather conditions.

In a bid to ease commuting woes, the Cyberabad police issued an advisory urging IT companies to adopt work-from-home arrangements for employees, citing the IMD’s forecast of continued heavy rainfall. This measure aims to reduce traffic congestion in Hyderabad’s IT hub, where waterlogging has severely impacted mobility. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely, with emergency teams deployed to assist residents and manage the ongoing challenges posed by the relentless rains.
