Haryana Agriculture Minister Shyam Singh Rana announced plans to construct a large cold storage facility in every district to prevent spoilage of fruits and vegetables, ensuring farmers fetch better prices. During a meeting reviewing horticulture-related budget announcements, Rana urged officials to accelerate work and meet 2025-26 state budget deadlines, warning of accountability for delays.
Rana highlighted progress on a modern kinnow processing and packaging plant in Sirsa, where three acres of land have been identified, and a draft Detailed Project Report is ready. Similar advanced facilities and mandis for guava are planned in Hisar and Fatehabad, with work set to begin soon. Emphasizing sustainability, he encouraged cold storage owners to adopt solar energy to cut costs and boost income.
The initiative includes a 35% subsidy for cold storage units up to 5,000 metric tonnes, offering Rs 1.68 crore to Rs 2.10 crore per beneficiary. Rana also pushed for promoting low-water, low-input crops, alongside beekeeping and mushroom cultivation, to enhance farmer livelihoods.
