Bollywood actor Govinda has officially announced his return to the big screen, confirming that he will headline the upcoming film Roopa. The veteran actor unveiled the project during a press conference on Monday, revealing that he will not only play the lead role but also produce the film. He will star opposite newcomer Rani Swarnkar, marking what he hopes will be the beginning of a new chapter in his career after years away from mainstream cinema.
Speaking at the event, Govinda reflected on the highs and lows of his journey in the film industry, saying he had been written off several times but always believed in making a comeback. "Maybe it was destiny that I was written off many times. People said that now he will not appear in films. I start again. And I pray to God that what I have thought and what people cannot think, this film works its magic," he said. He added that Roopa has been made especially for younger audiences and expressed confidence that the film would resonate with viewers in theatres.
The actor also said he wanted the film to inspire audiences through its storytelling rather than focus on spiritual themes. "This film is especially for youngsters. When they will see this in the theater, such a dream will come true. And this is possible. I will not discuss any spirituality in this," he said. While details about the plot and release date have not yet been announced, Govinda expressed optimism that the project would mark a successful return to acting after an extended break.

Govinda also spoke about the significance of the number 14 in his life, describing it as his lucky number and attributing many of his career milestones to it. He said he believes strongly in numerology and noted that his name was modified in accordance with those beliefs. Recalling his early career, the actor said he signed 14 films in a single week at the age of 14 and went on to enjoy nearly 14 years of superstardom. He also pointed out that he served as a Member of Parliament during the 14th Lok Sabha before enduring another 14-year period of struggle.
Reflecting on his latest comeback, Govinda said this time he did not want to wait any longer before returning to films. "This is the first time that I could not wait for more than five years. I said, 'I will start again'. And now I hope that the journey has started from here," he said. The actor expressed gratitude for the opportunity to return and hoped the new film would reconnect him with audiences across generations.
One of Bollywood's most popular stars during the 1990s, Govinda built his reputation through a string of successful comedy, action and family entertainers, earning widespread acclaim for his comic timing, energetic dance performances and screen presence. Although his appearances in films have become infrequent in recent years, his comeback announcement has generated interest among fans eager to see him return to the silver screen. With Roopa, the actor is aiming to begin a fresh innings while introducing a new leading actress and taking on production responsibilities alongside his role in front of the camera.
