The Union Ministry of Education has released the Unified District Information System for Education Plus (UDISE+) 2025-26 report, highlighting significant improvements in school infrastructure across India, particularly in digital facilities. According to the report, the academic year 2025-26 recorded steady progress in access to computers and internet connectivity in schools, alongside gains in teacher strength, pupil-teacher ratio, reduced dropout rates, and overall educational infrastructure. The findings underscore the government's continued focus on strengthening digital learning in classrooms.
The UDISE+ report shows that the percentage of schools with computer access increased from 64.7 per cent in 2024-25 to 69.9 per cent in 2025-26. Internet connectivity also improved during the same period, rising from 63.5 per cent to 67.4 per cent of schools. The data reflects a consistent upward trend over the past four academic years, with computer availability increasing from 47.7 per cent in 2022-23 and internet access growing from 49.7 per cent during the same period. These figures indicate sustained investment in expanding digital infrastructure across educational institutions.
According to the Press Information Bureau (PIB), the improvements demonstrate a strong emphasis on integrating technology into classrooms and supporting digital learning. The government said that better digital infrastructure enables schools to provide improved access to online educational resources, digital content, and technology-enabled teaching methods. It added that expanding internet connectivity and computer access is an important step towards creating modern, inclusive, and technology-driven learning environments that prepare students for future academic and professional opportunities.

The report also highlights broader progress in India's school education system beyond digital infrastructure. It notes improvements in the number of teachers, a better pupil-teacher ratio, lower dropout rates, and enhanced school facilities across the country. These developments are expected to contribute to improved learning outcomes and strengthen the quality of education by providing students and teachers with better academic resources and classroom support.
Despite the positive trend, earlier findings by NITI Aayog have pointed out that regional disparities in digital infrastructure continue to exist. While India has made considerable progress in expanding access to electricity, computers, internet connectivity, and smart classrooms, the pace of development varies across states and regions. The latest UDISE+ report nevertheless indicates that the country's education sector is steadily advancing towards greater digital inclusion, with continued investments expected to further improve access to technology-enabled education in the coming years.
