The Goa government has disbursed over ₹2 crore in financial assistance to 46 sports associations and 123 clubs to strengthen grassroots sports, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant announced during a ceremony at Mantralaya, Porvorim, on Tuesday. The initiative, spearheaded by the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, aims to nurture local talent and enhance sports infrastructure across the state.
“We are empowering athletes, uplifting rural talent, and building a vibrant sports culture,” Sawant said, emphasizing the funds’ role in improving performance and boosting participation in national and international events. The move aligns with Goa’s push for Olympic disciplines, addressing past delays in funding that hampered preparations for events like the 2023 National Games.
