Petrol and diesel prices remained largely unchanged across major Indian cities on April 28, offering temporary relief to consumers despite volatility in global crude oil markets.According to the latest available data, fuel rates have not seen any revision in key metros such as Mumbai, Hyderabad, Chennai, and Kolkata. This stability comes even as international oil prices remain elevated due to geopolitical tensions and supply disruptions.
In Mumbai, petrol continues to retail at around ₹103.50 per litre, while diesel is priced close to ₹90.01 per litre. In Hyderabad, petrol is hovering near ₹107.46–₹107.50 per litre and diesel around ₹95.70 per litre. Meanwhile, Chennai has petrol prices near ₹100.84 per litre and diesel around ₹92.39 per litre, while Kolkata records petrol at approximately ₹105.41–₹105.45 per litre and diesel near ₹92.02 per litre.
Fuel prices across India are revised daily at 6 a.m. based on global crude oil benchmarks, exchange rates, and domestic tax structures. However, despite fluctuations in international markets, oil marketing companies have kept retail prices steady in recent days, likely to cushion consumers from sharp increases.

Recent reports indicate that global crude prices have been under pressure due to geopolitical developments, particularly tensions in West Asia and disruptions in key shipping routes. Despite this, domestic fuel prices have remained insulated, with policymakers appearing cautious about passing on the full impact to consumers.
Experts note that fuel prices vary across cities due to differences in state-level taxes, transportation costs, and local levies. While the current stability offers short-term relief, analysts warn that sustained pressure in global oil markets could eventually lead to revisions in domestic fuel rates if the situation persists.
