A black kite, found injured at National Security Advisor Ajit Doval’s residence, was rescued and released back into the wild after rehabilitation by Wildlife SOS, according to a statement released Saturday.
The rescue took place on Thursday when security personnel discovered the bird collapsed in the residence’s security control room, unable to fly due to evident wing injuries. Acting quickly, the staff contacted Wildlife SOS’s 24/7 emergency helpline. They secured the distressed kite in a box to prevent further harm until the rescue team arrived.
Wildlife SOS responders transported the raptor to their transit facility for treatment. Veterinary examination confirmed wing injuries, and after dedicated care, including medical attention and nutritional support, the bird regained its strength. Following observation, it was deemed fit for release.
Kartick Satyanarayan, Wildlife SOS Co-founder and CEO, underscored the incident’s broader significance. “This rescue highlights the urgent need to protect urban birds of prey like black kites, which frequently suffer injuries from collisions with buildings and man-made structures. Timely action is vital for their survival,” he said.
Geeta Seshamani, Wildlife SOS Co-founder and Secretary, lauded the security team’s swift response. “Their prompt action was key to saving this bird’s life. We remain committed to rescuing and rehabilitating wildlife, promoting harmony between people and native species,” she added.
